The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has announced an important step toward simplifying corporate mergers in India.

A draft notification proposing amendments to the Companies (Compromises, Arrangements, and Amalgamations) Rules, 2016 has been released, aimed at widening the scope of fast-track mergers under Section 233 of the Companies Act, 2013.

This initiative aligns with Para 101 of the Budget Speech for 2025-2026, highlighting the government’s commitment to streamlining business processes. Under Section 233, eligible companies can merge or amalgamate with Central Government approval, delegated to Regional Directors.

The MCA encourages stakeholders and the public to review the proposed changes available on its official website. Comments and suggestions are welcome via the e-Consultation Module on the MCA website, with the submission deadline set for May 5, 2025.
