Mbappe and PSG Clash in Paris Labour Court Over Financial Dispute

Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain have taken their bitter financial feud to a Paris labour court.

The France captain seeks more than €260 million ($301 million) from his former club, while PSG counters with a €240 million claim.

Mbappe’s demand includes €55 million in unpaid wages, damages for alleged ill-treatment, and claims of psychological harassment. His lawyers argue that PSG failed to honour contractual obligations, intensifying the dispute between player and club.

Meanwhile, PSG’s counter-suit focuses on what it describes as Mbappe’s failed €300 million transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal in 2023. The club insists that the collapse of the deal caused significant financial loss. However, Mbappe’s lawyer maintains that the Saudi offer was never presented to the player.

The conflict traces back to July 2023, when Mbappe refused to sign a contract extension. PSG excluded him from their pre-season tour of Asia and their opening league match before reinstating him. The club claims he agreed to forgo end-of-contract payments to safeguard PSG’s financial health.

Furthermore, Mbappe left PSG to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in June 2024. PSG now seeks €60 million in damages and €180 million for the “loss of opportunity” linked to his departure, arguing that he concealed his decision not to extend his contract for nearly a year.

After heated exchanges between lawyers, the judge announced that the verdict would be delivered on December 16. The case has drawn widespread attention, highlighting tensions between star players and elite clubs over contracts, transfers, and financial power.
