In a strong response following a key meeting at the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) office, Mayor Sulochana Das has demanded the immediate arrest of the mastermind behind the recent assault on a BMC official.
Speaking to the media, the Mayor stated,
“It is now absolutely clear who the mastermind is. Unless they are given exemplary punishment, such lawlessness will continue. No one will dare take the law into their own hands once justice is ensured.”
She further explained that sanitation workers have been requested to resume work voluntarily to avoid public inconvenience. However, in accordance with the decision taken by the OAS (Odisha Administrative Service) Association, most officials remain on mass leave, including those at BMC.
“Everyone at BMC is currently on leave. As Mayor, I fully support them and stand with them in solidarity,” she said.
The Mayor emphasized that normal functioning will not resume until the main accused is arrested.
“Even the Commissioner has made it clear — no one is above the law. Right now, no employee at BMC feels safe,” she added, underlining the tense situation inside the civic body.
