Maoists have killed BJP mandal-level worker Satyam Punem in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, reigniting tensions in the region.
The incident occurred when armed Maoists reportedly called Punem out of his house and murdered him, suspecting him of being a police informer.
Punem had received multiple warnings from Maoist groups in the past. Despite the threats, he continued his political activities in the region. His death marks a grim reminder of the ongoing Maoist presence and their targeting of individuals linked to law enforcement or political parties.
Local sources confirmed that Punem was active in BJP’s grassroots operations and had been under Maoist scrutiny for some time. The killing has triggered concern among party workers and residents in Bijapur, a district often affected by insurgent violence.
Authorities are investigating the incident and have increased security in the area. The BJP has condemned the attack and demanded swift action against the perpetrators.
