In a significant development for national security, two senior Maoist leaders, Atram Lachanna alias Gopanna and his wife Choudhury Ankubaai alias Anitakka, surrendered to authorities in Ramagundam, Telangana.
Their decision marks a major blow to the Maoist insurgency across Bastar and Telangana regions.
Lachanna, a member of the Dandakaranya Zonal Committee and Telangana State Committee, had been active since 2007, holding key positions including Divisional Committee Member (DVC) in North Bastar and later responsibilities in DKZC. His wife Anitakka, a seasoned cadre since 1995, was promoted to Area Committee Member (ACM) in 2002 and transferred to DKZC in 2007.
Security forces hailed the surrender as a strategic victory, expected to disrupt Maoist operations and morale. The couple’s decision is believed to stem from sustained pressure and outreach efforts by law enforcement and rehabilitation programs.
Authorities are optimistic that this high-profile surrender will encourage other cadres to abandon violence and reintegrate into society.
