A violent family dispute in Odisha’s Kendrapara district left a man critically injured after he was allegedly tied up and assaulted at his in-laws’ house.

The victim, identified as Sudarshan Sethi of Alaile village under Mahakalapada police limits, was first admitted to Pattamundai Hospital and later shifted to SCB Hospital in Cuttack as his condition worsened.

Reports said Sudarshan married Purnima Sethi of Bandhasahi village three years ago. Differences surfaced within a year, leading to frequent quarrels. Four days ago, after another dispute, Purnima returned to her parental home. On Monday, Sudarshan went there with two youths to meet her.

Family members alleged that Sudarshan arrived intoxicated and created chaos. His in-laws and neighbours then tied his hands and legs with ropes and assaulted him. Later, it was discovered that Sudarshan had consumed poisonous seeds along with alcohol. His wife rushed him to Pattamundai Hospital before he was shifted to Cuttack.

Meanwhile, Sudarshan’s sister Kandhei Sethi lodged a complaint at Pattamundai police station, accusing the in-laws of brutal assault. Police registered a case and began an investigation. Station IIC Bandana Patra confirmed that inquiries are underway.

The incident has sparked concern in Kendrapara, highlighting how domestic disputes can spiral into violent confrontations. Authorities continue to probe the matter while monitoring Sudarshan’s condition.
