A Special Fast Track POCSO Court in Mayurbhanj district has sentenced a 30-year-old man, Hemendra Nayak, to life imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl.
The court, presided over by Judge Santosh Kumar Nayak, also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict. In case of default, he will serve an additional six months in prison.
According to case records, the incident occurred on June 4, 2024, when the victim and her younger sister were heading to a nearby market. The convict lured them with chocolates, sent the younger sibling home, and then assaulted the victim on a bus. The girl reported the crime to her family, leading to the arrest of Nayak and a case being registered at the Jasipur police station.
The court convicted the accused based on witness testimonies, medical reports, and police investigation. Additionally, the judge ordered the District Legal Services Authority to grant ₹3 lakh in compensation to the victim.
Public prosecutor Manaranjan Pattnaik represented the case, ensuring a swift legal process that led to the conviction.
