A shocking incident unfolded in Kurumunda village under Beltukri police limits of Nuapada district, where a man was allegedly killed by his son over a land dispute.
The deceased has been identified as Paban Singh Bariha (60), while the accused son, Tularam Bariha (36), has been detained by police.
According to reports, the father and son were engaged in a heated argument on Saturday afternoon regarding family-owned farmland. In a fit of rage, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, Tularam struck his father multiple times with a bamboo stick. Paban succumbed to his injuries on the spot. After the attack, the son left the lifeless body in the field and returned home.
Local police reached the scene on Sunday morning following a tip-off, seized the body, and detained the accused for questioning. Nuapada SP, G.R. Raghavendra, also visited the site to take stock of the situation. Preliminary investigations suggest the murder was triggered by an ongoing dispute over agricultural land.
This horrifying case not only highlights the gravity of domestic disputes turning fatal but also raises serious concerns about rising intra-family violence in rural regions.
