A 55-year-old man, identified as Nir Nunan of Barihapada village, was beaten to death late Saturday night on the Barihapada–Khadiamal road under Lakera police limits in Jharsuguda district.
Police said Nunan and the accused had been drinking together at a local liquor unit when an altercation broke out. In a fit of rage, the suspect allegedly killed Nunan by striking him with a stone.
Following a complaint at Bagdihi outpost, police detained one suspect. The motive behind the killing is still under investigation.
