A tense situation unfolded in Sunamunda village under Debagada police limits when a youth allegedly brandished an illegal handmade firearm, prompting swift police action and arrest.

According to the police report, Raghunatha Naik (41) of Sunamunda lodged a complaint stating that around 6 PM on July 29, Rohit Behera (25) of the same village arrived at his house armed with a small handmade gun. The accused allegedly abused Naik and his sister‑in‑law in obscene language and threatened to kill them while brandishing the weapon.

Hearing the commotion, villagers gathered at the spot, overpowered the accused, and secured the firearm before alerting the police. Officers from Debagada Police Station, led by SI Binay Prasad Parida, reached the location and took Behera into custody along with the weapon.

During interrogation, Behera reportedly confessed that he had procured the firearm from a local artisan, Junu Karigar, of the same village. Police seized the weapon and its components — one handmade small arm, a wooden butt, and two iron barrels — and registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
