A man identified as Rizwi alias Raja was arrested on Thursday night for allegedly shouting abusive slogans targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a political rally organized by the INDIA bloc in Darbhanga.
The incident occurred during the Voter Adhikaar Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
The arrest followed the circulation of a video showing the accused hurling insults from a stage adorned with posters of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Tejashwi Yadav. The BJP swiftly filed a complaint at Patna’s Kotwali Police Station, demanding an apology from Congress.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condemned the incident, calling the language used “extremely inappropriate.” Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath also criticized the INDIA bloc, stating that such remarks insult all 140 crore Indians.
The Darbhanga Police confirmed the arrest and stated that legal proceedings are underway. The incident has sparked a political firestorm, with BJP leaders rallying for accountability and opposition parties facing mounting pressure to respond.
