A tragic road accident unfolded near Farm Colony under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district, Odisha, claiming the life of a man and leaving two others, including a child, critically injured.

The incident occurred when a Bolero TUV vehicle, reportedly belonging to the RD Department and returning from a road inspection in the remote Kurmanur panchayat, collided head-on with a scooter near the church in Farm village. The impact was so severe that both vehicles were thrown into a roadside ditch, with the scooter completely mangled.

The scooter was carrying Bikram Patra (35), his 7-year-old daughter, and Manoranjan Das (32), all residents of MV-70 village under Kalimela police jurisdiction. They were returning home from DAV Gurukul School when the accident occurred.

Local residents rushed to the scene and rescued the injured, sending them first to Kalimela CHC. Due to the critical condition of Bikram Patra, he was referred to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries en route near Pandripani village. Doctors at the local health centre declared him dead.

The Bolero driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. Kalimela police have seized both the Bolero and the scooter and registered a case. An investigation is underway, and the body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem.

This incident highlights the growing concern over reckless driving and the urgent need for stricter road safety enforcement in the region.
