A minor motorcycle collision near Stadium Square in Malkangiri turned fatal for police constable Akshay Kumar Nayak. He was on his way to report for duty when the accident occurred.
Nayak collided head-on with a known acquaintance riding another motorcycle. Both sustained minor external injuries and received treatment at the district headquarters hospital. Nayak resumed duty shortly after.
Later that day, he felt unwell and returned home to rest. Within hours, he experienced sudden nosebleeds and collapsed. Family members rushed him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Medical reports revealed that despite the absence of major external injuries, Nayak suffered internal trauma and hemorrhaging, which led to his death. His body was handed over to the family after post-mortem examination.
The news of his death cast a pall of grief over the entire police department. Senior officers and colleagues attended his final rites, offering condolences and support to the bereaved family.
