Bolangir district police have arrested a domestic help accused of stealing gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 25 lakh and Rs 40,000 in cash from the residence of Nasima Tamsum in Ashrampada, Kantabanji town.
According to police sources, Madhuri Podh, a woman from Tengara village under Muribahal police limits, had been working at Nasima’s house for the past few months. Just before the Nuakhai festival, Nasima reported the theft of 230 grams of gold and Rs 40,000 in cash to the Kantabanji police station, suspecting Madhuri’s involvement.
Following interrogation, police recovered several stolen gold items from Madhuri’s residence, including two necklaces, one chain, and two bangles. Investigations revealed that Madhuri had exchanged the stolen gold at multiple jewelry shops to acquire various ornaments. The shopkeepers who received the stolen gold have also been summoned for questioning.
Station Officer Rashmita Behera confirmed that a case under IPC Section 312 has been registered. Madhuri was produced in court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody after her bail plea was rejected.
