The Mahanadi water dispute hearing has been rescheduled to March 14. The tribunal will conduct a spot visit between the last week of February and the first week of March before the hearing.
The tribunal’s tenure is set to end on April 13. Both Odisha and Chhattisgarh have already requested the Centre to extend the tenure until March 27, 2027. The delay in proceedings occurred because the chairperson’s post remained vacant for nine months, halting work during that period.
Attorney General Pitambar Acharya confirmed that the absence of a chairperson caused the delay in hearings. He added that the tribunal’s schedule was affected, leading to the postponement of proceedings.
The upcoming hearing will be crucial as both states continue to press for a resolution of the long-standing Mahanadi water dispute. The tribunal’s spot visit aims to assess ground realities before the final arguments.
