Odisha Vigilance on September 23, 2025, apprehendedSri Siba Mallick, OAS, Tahsildar of Mahakalpada, while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant.
The bribe was allegedly demanded to facilitate the eviction of an illegal structure obstructing access to the complainant’s residence.
The complainant had filed an encroachment case in 2024, after miscreants forcibly occupied government land, blocking a common passage. A Revenue Inspector’s report in April 2024 confirmed the encroachment. Despite repeated requests, Mallick allegedly insisted on a bribe, warning that the file would otherwise remain pending indefinitely.
Acting on the complaint, Vigilance officers laid a trap and caught Mallick red-handed inside his rest room at the Tahasil Office, recovering the entire bribe amount. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are underway at six locations linked to Mallick to investigate disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 29/2025, Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing.
