In a fresh burden on household budgets, domestic LPG cylinder prices have been increased by ₹29 per cylinder with effect from June 7, 2026.

The latest revision pushes the price of a standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi to ₹942, up from ₹913 earlier.

The price hike comes nearly three months after oil marketing companies increased domestic LPG prices by ₹60 per cylinder in March amid volatility in global energy markets triggered by tensions in West Asia.

New Domestic LPG Price

Following the latest revision:

  • Previous price in Delhi: ₹913
  • Revised price in Delhi: ₹942
  • Increase: ₹29 per cylinder

The revised rates are effective from June 7 and are expected to impact households across the country.

Why Have LPG Prices Increased?

The recent increase comes amid continued pressure on global energy markets and rising subsidy burdens. Government officials have stated that domestic LPG continues to be sold below its actual cost.

Speaking at an inter-ministerial briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said that the under-recovery on every domestic LPG cooking gas cylinder remains close to ₹700.

According to the ministry, the government has taken multiple measures to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply, including:

  • Increasing domestic LPG production
  • Securing additional imports
  • Strengthening supply chain management
  • Improving delivery verification systems

Government Explains Changes in LPG Demand

Officials noted that LPG demand patterns have changed in recent months due to several factors.

These include:

  • Reduced consumption by commercial and industrial users
  • Better booking cycle management
  • Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-based verification of deliveries

The government believes these measures have improved efficiency in LPG distribution across the country.

Impact on Consumers

The latest hike is likely to affect millions of households that rely on LPG for daily cooking needs. With cooking gas prices crossing ₹940 in Delhi, consumers may face additional pressure on monthly household expenses.

Experts say global crude oil trends, geopolitical developments, and subsidy decisions will continue to influence LPG prices in the coming months.
