A woman in Balimela town, Malkangiri district, has fallen victim to cyber fraud and has approached the police for justice.
According to police sources, Satyabadi Dandapa, 60, resides in the Drug Line area in Balimela. A few days ago, she received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed to be a BSNL official and informed her that she had won a lottery, specifically a scooty (scooter). He stated that one of their drivers would deliver the vehicle to her home, but she needed to pay Rs 10,500 in advance for delivery charges. Initially, Satyabadi was sceptical and remained silent.
Shortly after, she received another call from a different number, wherein the caller claimed to be a forest department employee from her Mathili area and also stated that she had won a scooty in the Morbi lottery. This time, convinced by his claims, she sent Rs 10,500 via her phone to the payment number he provided.
However, after three days with no delivery or contact, Satyabadi became alarmed and went to the Oracle police station to file a written complaint. Based on her statement, a case was registered under number 127/2025, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway, according to Sub-Inspector Manohar Sahu.
