The streets of London bore witness to an extraordinary moment in marathon history as the 2025 TCS London Marathon set a new world record for the most finishers.
With over 56,000 runners crossing the line, it officially dethroned the previous record held by the 2024 New York City Marathon.
The route, beginning at Greenwich Park, winding along the River Thames, and culminating at The Mall, offered runners scenic views of the British capital. Among the many highlights of this iconic race were the victories of Kenyan Sabastian Sawe in the men’s elite race and Ethiopian Tigst Assefa, who smashed the women’s only world record.
Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, hailed this milestone as evidence of the event’s global prominence, proudly stating, “The TCS London Marathon is the world’s greatest marathon, and it is now officially the world’s biggest marathon.”
This monumental achievement underscores the marathon’s growing appeal, uniting participants from all walks of life in a celebration of endurance and community spirit.
