Odisha police have arrested a man accused of raping his live-in partner in the Buddha Nagar area of Bhubaneswar.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over women’s safety in the state capital.
The survivor, a young woman living in rented accommodation, lodged a formal complaint against her partner, identified as Bapini Sabat. Acting swiftly, the Laxmi Sagar police station registered a case under relevant sections of the law and launched an immediate investigation.
Based on preliminary findings, police tracked the accused to the Bada Bazaar area of Brahmapur. He was arrested and later brought back to Bhubaneswar for interrogation and completion of legal formalities.
Officials confirmed that the survivor has undergone a medical examination, and her statement has been recorded as per procedure. Investigators are now collecting evidence and examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence to establish the sequence of events.
Police said the accused will be produced before a local court. Further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
