Continuous rainfall from yesterday evening through the night triggered a landslide near Dengana Guda village, severely affecting transportation in the region.
The soil collapse occurred along the vital road connecting Damanjodi to Narayanpatna block, rendering it impassable for most vehicles except two-wheelers.
As a result, commuters are forced to take a detour via Laxmipur, adding nearly 60 kilometres to their journey. Upon receiving the alert, fire services promptly reached the site and cleared the debris, restoring partial normalcy.
Despite the road falling under the jurisdiction of the Koraput District Rural Development Department, locals have raised concerns over the absence of departmental engineers and officials. The deteriorating condition of the road and lack of regular monitoring have sparked questions about accountability and preparedness.
Residents allege that once construction is completed, officials rarely revisit the site, leaving the department unaware of recurring issues during monsoons. The incident underscores the urgent need for proactive maintenance and better communication between authorities and the public.
