The iconic Indian television show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi made its much-anticipated return with Season 2, on July 29 at 10:30 PM on Star Plus and JioCinema. Created by Ektaa Kapoor, the reboot marks the comeback of Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay as the beloved Tulsi and Mihir Virani after a hiatus of nearly 17 years.
The return of the series ignited a flood of nostalgia across social media, with fans taking to X (formerly Twitter) to express their emotional reactions. From Tulsi’s signature door-opening scene to the return of the show’s original theme music, audiences were reminded of the “golden era of Indian television.”
One user wrote, “No words can describe the feeling. It’s pure nostalgia. That golden era of television is back.” Another fan shared, “I was crying like a baby… so many memories with this title track. Original is original, boss!”
Smriti Irani, who has since transitioned into politics, was widely praised for retaining Tulsi’s grace and on-screen presence. “Tulsi still has the same charm and grace. Introducing the family with that title song—ICONIC!” a fan posted.
Amar Upadhyay’s Mihir Virani also received a warm welcome, although some viewers humorously requested his character to stay faithful this season. “Mihir, please—no more affairs or illegitimate children. Have mercy this time!” read one comment.
Alongside Irani and Upadhyay, veteran actors Ketki Dave, Kamalika Guha Thakurta, Hiten Tejwani, Gauri Pradhan, and Shakti Anand reprise their roles. New additions to the ensemble include Rohit Suchanti, Aman Gandhi, Shagun Sharma, and Tanisha Mehta.
The sequel has struck a chord with viewers across generations, many of whom mentioned watching the premiere with their families just like in the early 2000s. “Only KSBKBT could bring me back to watching Indian TV again,” a user commented.
Originally aired from 2000 to 2008, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was a cultural phenomenon that reshaped daily prime-time viewing habits. With the relaunch, Ektaa Kapoor hopes to recreate that magic, this time for a multi-generational audience.
