The second day of the 36th Konark Festival 2025 showcased the classical dance forms Kuchipudi and Odissi.

The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Minister of Higher Education, Sports and Youth Services, Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Suryabanshi Suraj, along with several dignitaries including Dr. Dibisad Brajsunder Garnaik, Archaeologist and Moderator from ASI Puri Circle; Deepankar Mohapatra, Director of the Tourism Department; Dibya Jyoti Parida, Collector and District Magistrate of Puri; Saroj Kumar Swain, Additional Secretary of the Tourism Department; Biswajit Routray, Additional Director of the Tourism Department; Dr. Chandrashekhar Hota, Secretary of the Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy; and Priya Ranjan Prusti, CDO and EO of Puri District Council. The day featured mesmerising performances by talented artists.

The first performance was presented by Guru Vyjayanthi Kashi and her group from the Shambhavi School of Dance in Bengaluru. Their dance recital, titled “Dharmāyana,” explored the various avatars of Lord Vishnu, each symbolising the eternal principles of Dharma and cosmic balance.

The second half of the program highlighted enchanting Odissi performances by Guru Sharmila Biswas and her group from the Odissi Vision & Movement Centre in Kolkata. The troupe performed “Mahalakshmi Stotram,” which brings to life the powerful imagery of the goddess holding the Shankha, Chakra, Gada, and Padma. Inspired by Patachitra art, sculptures, and traditional shadow puppetry, this choreography created a visually rich presentation. Additionally, “Abartan–Bibartan” explored the natural rhythm found in everyday actions, transforming simple activities and playful movements into dance and celebrating the innate pulse that shapes music and expression. Finally, “Shrishti–Tatva” interpreted the evolution of life through a blend of ancient wisdom and modern thought, drawing from the Puranas and Jayadeva’s depiction of the Dashavatar to reflect the essence of creation.

The diverse and captivating performances showcased the elegance and beauty of classical dance traditions, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. The presence of esteemed art connoisseurs and tourists at the Konark Festival underscores the event’s allure and its ability to connect with a wide range of audiences, thereby promoting Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.

Additionally, intricate sand art was brought to life at the 15th International Sand Art Festival, focusing on the themes of “Eco-Tourism & Wildlife” for male artists and “Environment & Climate Change” for female artists.
