Koraput district in southern Odisha has begun to feel the first signs of winter, transforming the region into a serene landscape of fog-covered hills and chilly mornings. Over the past two days, temperatures have dipped noticeably, marking a clear shift in the season.
The cool breeze sweeping through Narayanpatna, Laxmipur, and Semiliguda has prompted locals to bring out their warm clothes. As the mornings turn misty, roadside tea stalls are bustling with early risers seeking warmth and camaraderie over steaming cups of tea.
Chilly Weather Adds to Koraput’s Scenic Charm
The winter chill has not only brought comfort after weeks of humidity but has also enhanced the natural beauty of the region. Green hilltops are now blanketed in fog, and the golden morning sunlight filters gently through the mist, creating postcard-perfect views.
Residents of Narayanpatna shared their delight with local reporters, expressing relief from the earlier sticky weather.
“The cold wave has set in after Cyclone Montha. It’s been very cold for the last two days. The forests and mountains are covered with fog and dew—it feels refreshing,” said one local resident.
Another added,
“For the past two or three days, the fog has been thick until around 6:30 a.m. It’s cold, but it feels good after the rain.”
Farmers Express Mixed Reactions
While most people are enjoying the cooler climate, farmers in the region have mixed feelings. The early onset of winter could potentially affect standing crops if the cold wave intensifies too soon. However, many remain hopeful that the moderate temperatures will help balance soil moisture and reduce pest infestations.
