In a significant development following the tragic death of Nepalese student Prakriti Lamsal at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University, authorities have arrested 21-year-old Advik Srivastava from Lucknow.
Srivastava, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at the same institution, faces charges under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for alleged abetment of suicide.
The arrest came after a complaint was lodged by Lamsal’s cousin, Siddhant Sigdel, who accused Srivastava of harassment leading up to the incident. Authorities have seized various documents and electronic devices as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar are seeking a court order to remand Srivastava for further interrogation to uncover more details surrounding Lamsal’s death.
Officers from Infocity police station are likely to file an application today, requesting permission to extend the interrogation period to gather more details about the incident. In the meantime, the electronic devices belonging to the deceased student, including a mobile phone and laptop, have been dispatched to a forensic lab for a comprehensive data analysis that might offer further insights into the case.
