Kerala Blasters announced that club captain Adrian Luna will spend the 2025-26 season on loan with an overseas team.
The club confirmed the move through a social media post, describing it as a mutually agreed arrangement between Luna and management. However, the Blasters did not reveal which club the Uruguayan midfielder will join.
Luna, who joined the Blasters in 2021, has played 71 matches across all competitions and scored 15 goals. His departure marks a significant change for the team, especially as the Indian Super League faces ongoing uncertainty.
Furthermore, the ISL season, which usually begins in September, has been deferred this year. The delay follows the expiry of the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Sports Development Limited. On December 31, the AIFF sent letters to all ISL clubs, asking them to confirm participation in the shortened 2025-26 season by January 1.
Moreover, Luna’s exit adds to a growing list of high-profile departures from Indian football. FC Goa captain Borja Herrera left the club, citing untenable conditions. Bengaluru FC parted ways with striker Edgar Mendez and manager Gerard Zaragoza, while Odisha FC split with manager Sergio Lobera.
The Blasters now face the challenge of rebuilding their squad while navigating the uncertainty surrounding the league’s future. Luna’s loan move underscores the wider instability in Indian football as clubs and players adapt to shifting structures and delayed competitions.
