A tragic incident has claimed the life of a primary school cook in Hatibandha village under Anandapur block, Keonjhar district.

The cook, Tapoi Pradhan (45), succumbed to severe burn injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, today.

On November 27, Tapoi was preparing lunch for students under the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) scheme when her saree accidentally caught fire. At the time, other cooks had gone to the village market to buy groceries. Witnessing the mishap, schoolchildren quickly poured water to douse the flames.

Locals rushed her to Anandapur Hospital, but as her condition worsened, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where she eventually passed away.
