In a significant step towards improving healthcare infrastructure, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated In-Patient Services and Trauma Care facilities at Dharanidhar Medical College and Hospital in Keonjhar on May 5, 2025.

The newly launched trauma care unit aims to provide critical medical assistance to accident victims, particularly in Keonjhar, a district known for its high vehicular movement due to mining activities. With the anticipated rise in industrial establishments and infrastructure projects, the government has prioritised strengthening emergency medical response.

During the inauguration, CM Majhi emphasised the urgent need for trauma care facilities across all mineral-rich districts in Odisha. He announced that similar units will be established in other locations soon, ensuring rapid emergency treatment for accident victims.

The Odisha government has undertaken multiple initiatives to enhance healthcare services. Since the new administration took office, 4,000 doctor and healthcare worker positions have been filled, with plans to recruit 5,000 more doctors in the near future. Additionally, new ambulances are being deployed to improve emergency response.

CM Majhi also revealed plans to establish four new medical colleges in Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, and Nabarangpur, aiming to have one medical college per district.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the central government has committed to funding 60% of medical college establishment costs, while state governments contribute 40%. CM Majhi noted that states like Telangana have successfully established 34 medical colleges, whereas Odisha has lagged behind due to political neglect by previous administrations.

To ensure affordable medical treatment, Odisha has implemented the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana alongside the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, enabling citizens to access treatment at 29,000 public and private hospitals across India. Additionally, senior citizens above 70 years have been included under the Ayushman Bayobandana Yojana.

CM Majhi urged doctors to treat healthcare as a mission, combining professional expertise with a service-oriented mindset to elevate Odisha’s healthcare standards.

The inauguration event was attended by Minister for Higher Education, Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Suryabanshi Suraj, along with Anandpur MLA Abhimanyu Sethi, Ghasipura MLA Badrinarayan Patra, Telkoi MLA Fakir Mohan Nayak, Patna MLA Akhila Chandra Nayak, and Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud.

With Odisha’s healthcare sector evolving rapidly, the government’s commitment to trauma care and medical education is expected to significantly improve emergency response and overall healthcare accessibility.
