A youth was killed on Saturday after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Padmakesharpur eucalyptus forest under the Patana forest range in Odisha’s Kendujhar district.
The deceased was identified as Kunaram Sardar, a resident of nearby Jamunapashi village.
According to sources, Sardar had ventured into the forest to watch a 32-member herd roaming the area when a tusker suddenly attacked and threw him to the ground using its trunk.
On-site forest officials rescued Sardar and rushed him to the Kendujhar District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The incident has triggered widespread fear among residents, with the herd reportedly moving toward the Turumunga area. Forest officials reiterated warnings urging villagers to refrain from approaching wild elephant herds.
