A tragic incident has shaken Kendujhar district after a fire service jawan lost his life to electrocution while assisting a flood‑hit family.
According to reports, heavy rains had left a house near Government Girls High School waterlogged. A team of firefighters arrived with pumps to drain the accumulated water. During the operation, a clothesline wire on the premises had unknowingly come into contact with electricity, turning live.
The jawan accidentally touched the wire and collapsed after receiving a severe electric shock. His colleagues rushed him to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The incident has left the district in mourning, with residents paying tribute to the jawan’s sacrifice in the line of duty. Officials noted that the tragedy underscores the critical importance of electrical safety during monsoon relief operations, especially in flood‑affected urban areas.
