In an anti-narcotics drive, Kandhamala Police seized 750 kilograms of contraband ganja (cannabis) valued at approximately Rs 75 lakh and arrested 11 individuals in the Gochhapada police station area.
Acting on specific intelligence gathered on November 3 regarding illegal cannabis cultivation and storage near forest streams in Salaguda and Katringia panchayats, a joint enforcement team led by DSP Sunil Arun Kumar Nayak, SDPO Subhrajit Biswal, and Inspector Subhrajit Samantaray conducted a raid in the presence of an executive magistrate.
During the search, officers recovered 750 kg of ganja packed in 25 plastic sacks. Preliminary investigations revealed that the contraband was scheduled to be smuggled to Madhya Pradesh via railway networks through neighbouring Boudh district.
Additionally, the team identified and destroyed illegal cannabis crops spread across nearly 25 acres of forest land using drone surveillance for real-time monitoring. A case has been registered at Gochhapada Police Station under the NDPS Act, 1985, as police continue their crackdown against illegal drug syndicates.
