The Kamakhya Express (Train Number 12551) derailed near Nergundi, close to Manguli in Cuttack district, Odisha, on Sunday.
Initial reports indicate that 11 coaches of the train went off the tracks, causing panic among passengers.
The incident occurred during the train’s scheduled journey, and authorities have rushed to the site to assess the situation. Passengers were seen evacuating the train in fear. The cause of the derailment remains unclear, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances leading to the mishap.
Railway officials have assured that relief measures are being implemented promptly, and efforts are underway to restore normalcy on the affected route.
Senior railway officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Khurda Road and the General Manager of East Coast Railway (ECoR), rushed to the site to oversee relief measures. An Accident Relief Train and a Medical Relief Train were promptly dispatched to provide support.
To ensure passenger convenience, a special train is being arranged to transport stranded passengers to their destinations. Railway authorities have assured that all efforts are being made to address the situation and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
East Coast Railway officials have announced that the following trains have been diverted with immediate effect:
- 12822 (BRAG)
- 12875 (BBS)
- 22606 (RTN)
