Tensions flared today at Kalla Panchayat Degree College under Barkote block in Debagada district following heated arguments between two student groups over alleged interference by non-students during campus election campaigning.
According to reports, disputes erupted when non-students were spotted actively campaigning on campus. Protesting students approached college authorities seeking intervention; however, inaction by the management fueled widespread dissatisfaction, leading students to block National Highway 49 in protest.
The road blockade caused significant traffic disruptions and heightened local tensions. Upon receiving information, teams from the Barkote Police Station, along with the Tehsildar, rushed to the spot to mediate with the demonstrating students.
Traffic movement resumed after administrative assurances were provided. To restore normalcy and maintain order, authorities have scheduled a peace meeting between the opposing student factions, while urging students to strictly adhere to election guidelines.
