Narendra Naik, a 26-year-old from Kalei village in Junagarh block of Kalahandi district, has remained trapped under a sardar in Andhra Pradesh for ten months.
He travelled to Vijayawada in March 2025 as a migrant worker. After working for a few months, a labour agent promised him higher wages but instead abandoned him with a sardar near the Pehena river.
The sardar forced Narendra into fishing work without pay. He works from 4 a.m. until late evening, with little food provided. Narendra informed his family through phone calls that he remains confined and appealed for rescue.
His father, Ashwini Naik, approached the Kalahandi District Collector, the Labour Department, Junagarh Police Station, and the Dharamgarh Sub-Collector. Despite repeated appeals, authorities have not taken action. The family has grown desperate and feels abandoned.
Narendra’s plight highlights the exploitation faced by migrant workers, who are lured with false promises and then trapped in bonded labour. His family continues to hope for intervention, but administrative silence has left them broken and helpless.
