Odisha Vigilance apprehended Sambit Tripathy, a Junior Clerk at the Block Education Officer’s (BEO) office in Nandapur, Koraput district, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000.
The bribe was the first instalment of a Rs. 30,000 demand to process the file for the Revised Assured Career Progression (RACP)/Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP), revised pension, and gratuity for a deceased primary school teacher who passed away on October 27, 2019.
The teacher’s elderly widow, dependent on a family pension, faced harassment from Tripathy, who refused to process the sanctioned benefits approved on June 11, 2025—unless the bribe was paid.
Acting on a tip-off, Vigilance officials set up a sting operation and caught Tripathy red-handed while accepting the Rs. 15,000. The entire tainted amount was recovered and seized from his possession.
A case has been registered under Koraput Vigilance PS Case No. 26 dated August 5, 2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Tripathy to probe potential disproportionate assets.
The investigation continues, with further details expected soon.
