Bhubaneswar Left Parallel Road Survey

The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has embarked on a significant step towards improving the city’s infrastructure by initiating a two-day demarcation survey for the proposed left parallel road from OERC Square to Patharagadia.

The survey, which began on Tuesday and is set to conclude on Wednesday, August 6, aims to enumerate families in the Chunukoli slum area who may be impacted by this ambitious project.

Under the guidance of Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, Vice Chairman of BDA, four dedicated teams—comprising officials from the Revenue Department, Works Department, BDA, and Commissionerate Police—are conducting the fieldwork. The process is being overseen by senior officials, including the Additional Commissioner (Estate-II), Joint Commissioner (Enforcement), Sub-Collector, and Tehsildar of Bhubaneswar, to ensure accuracy and transparency.

The left parallel road is a flagship project designed to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in Bhubaneswar’s rapidly growing urban landscape. Stretching from the Institute of Mathematics to Ekamra Kanan, the road will pass through key locations such as Patharagadia, Utkal Hospital, and Rail Vihar. While construction is already underway in some sections, the survey is a critical step to address land acquisition and clear encroachments, ensuring the project progresses smoothly.

A key focus of the survey is to identify and enumerate families in the Chunukoli slum who may need relocation due to the road’s alignment. The BDA is committed to balancing infrastructure development with social responsibility, ensuring affected families are rehabilitated in accordance with urban development policies. This approach underscores the authority’s dedication to inclusive growth, ensuring no one is left behind as Bhubaneswar modernises.

The left parallel road project is expected to significantly improve commuting times and urban mobility, catering to the needs of a growing population. By addressing both infrastructure demands and the welfare of affected communities, the BDA is setting a precedent for sustainable urban development in Odisha’s capital.
