Dhenkanal: A herd of wild elephants entered Bangurisingha village in Odapada area of Dhenkanal district late last night and went on a rampage, destroying houses and standing crops.
Reportedly, a jumbo herd strayed into human settlement and pulled down at least five houses, and damaged crops in the locality.
Following the incident, irate locals blocked the NH-55 at Bangurisingha block, demanding compensation for the victims in this connection.
While an atmosphere of panic has set in the village, locals are spending sleepless nights to keep themselves and their farmland safe from the marauding elephants.
