A violent attack at Belpahar Gate in Jharsuguda district left one youth dead and another critically injured.
Police identified the deceased as Rahul Mahat and the injured as Akash Sahu, both residents of the Junadihi College area under Belpahar. Witnesses said four unidentified men arrived in a car and attacked the duo with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.
Locals rushed Akash to Lakhanpur hospital, where doctors provided initial treatment. He was later shifted to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital for advanced care.
Jharsuguda SP, Brajarajnagar SDPO, and Belpahar police reached the spot and began an investigation. Officers collected evidence and launched a manhunt to trace the attackers.
Police suspect personal rivalry or local gang involvement behind the assault. Senior officials said teams are scanning CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to identify the culprits.
