A hardcore Maoist identified as Prabhu surrendered before Rourkela police in the presence of Western Range DIG Brijesh Rai and Rourkela SP Nitesh Wadhwani.
Prabhu, originally from the Chhotanagpur region of Jharkhand, was an active member of a Maoist guerrilla camp. He carried a reward of more than Rs 2.5 lakh on his head.
Police officials stated that Prabhu’s surrender reflects the growing success of the government’s rehabilitation policy. Under the new Maoist surrender scheme, he will receive support for education, livelihood, and reintegration into mainstream society.
DIG Brijesh Rai and SP Nitesh Wadhwani assured that the government will take responsibility for his rehabilitation, ensuring opportunities for a better future. They emphasised that the surrender demonstrates the effectiveness of outreach programs aimed at weakening Maoist influence in the region.
