The arrests were announced during a press conference held at the Jeypore Town Police Station on Saturday, led by Koraput’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ambit Mohanty.
The apprehended individuals were linked to serious offences, including murder, robbery, extortion, and looting. Acting on intelligence, the police conducted a raid near Bhutnath Temple in Jeypore, where a group was allegedly planning a robbery. The police seized several weapons, cash, a motorcycle, and jewellery from the accused. According to the ASP, the arrested individuals are linked to four separate criminal cases, including organised crime, that had heightened concerns in the region. The police have launched “Operation Zero Tolerance Towards Crime” to curb such activities, with ongoing raids planned to maintain law and order.
Following the arrests, the accused were produced in court. However, the operation faced resistance as family members of the detainees protested outside the Jeypore Town Police Station. Jeypore Town Police Station Officer Ullas Chandra Raut assured that such operations would continue to ensure safety and security in the region.
