The principal of Swami Arupananda Degree College, Dayanidhi Routray, was arrested on Friday after multiple women faculty members and staff accused him of sexual harassment, obscene remarks, and workplace misconduct.
The incident came to light after several victims lodged a complaint with Raghunathpur police on July 11, demanding criminal action. They also submitted a memorandum to the Jagatsinghpur Sub‑Collector, seeking strict administrative measures.
Acting on the complaints, police arrested Routray and produced him before a local court. Meanwhile, the district administration placed him under suspension pending inquiry.
Reports suggest Routray allegedly made derogatory remarks and repeatedly harassed women employees, creating an intimidating atmosphere on campus. Police have begun recording statements of complainants and witnesses, with further legal action to follow based on investigation findings.
The case has sparked outrage in the district, with calls for stronger safeguards to protect women in educational institutions.
