Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the upcoming third T20 International against New Zealand in Wellington on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as he continues his recovery from a low-grade right adductor strain.
BCCI Medical Update and Recovery Status
According to an official media release issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday, Kishan is progressing well under the supervision of the medical team, though he is yet to regain full match fitness.
”Ishan Kishan is recovering well from his low grade right adductor strain, which he sustained during the first T20I of the series against New Zealand,” the BCCI stated. “He is yet to regain match fitness and is ruled out of the third T20I to be played on October 27, 2026 in Wellington. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring Ishan’s progress.
Squad Dynamics and Squad Continuity
Kishan sustained the thigh strain during the opening match of the series in Christchurch and was subsequently forced to sit out the second T20I. In his absence, young batting talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stepped into the playing XI, while uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra was drafted into the traveling squad as a backup cover.
The BCCI confirmed that Kushagra will remain with the squad in Wellington for the third fixture. India currently hold a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series and will look to seal an unassailable victory at the Sky Stadium (formerly Basin Reserve / Henry Stadium).
