Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) announced a sweeping overhaul of their coaching and support staff on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, ahead of the 2027 season.
The franchise has welcomed back several former fan favorites into official coaching roles, headlined by former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel and veteran Indian pacer Mohit Sharma.
Familiar Faces Return in Coaching Roles
Albie Morkel, who enjoyed a storied playing career with the franchise, has been appointed as an assistant coach. He will be joined by former England cricketer Gareth Batty, who also takes on an assistant coach role.
Meanwhile, Mohit Sharma—who represented CSK with distinction across multiple seasons—has been named the franchise’s new bowling coach.
The incoming coaching team will work alongside existing staff members, with fielding coach James Foster and assistant coach Sridharan Sriram retained for the upcoming campaign.
Era-Defining Transition Under Zaheer Khan
The restructuring marks a massive generational shift for the Yellow Brigade. The support staff will operate under newly appointed head coach Zaheer Khan, who takes over the reins from Stephen Fleming.
Fleming concluded a legendary 17-year tenure as CSK head coach, having served the franchise from 2009 through 2026 and steering them to multiple IPL titles.
CSK officially announced the wholesale changes across their social media handles as the franchise begins preparations for the 2027 IPL auction and season.
