The announcement came after an emergency meeting held on Thursday, where BCCI officials discussed the implications of ongoing military developments on the tournament. The immediate trigger was an air raid alert during a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, leading to a chaotic evacuation of spectators.
While IPL chairman Arun Dhumal had initially assured that upcoming matches would proceed as planned, recent drone and missile attacks targeting several Indian cities on May 8 forced a reassessment. In response, India launched counter-offensive strikes, further intensifying the geopolitical situation.
Cricket Australia and other international boards have expressed concern, stating they are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with players and coaches involved in the IPL.
For now, the future of the tournament remains uncertain, with BCCI confirming that resumption will depend on security assessments and directives from relevant authorities.
