In a shocking incident, social media influencer Kamal Kaur, whose real name was Kanchan Kumari, was found dead in a parked car at Adesh Hospital in Bhucho, Bathinda, on Wednesday evening.
The 30-year-old, popularly known online as ‘Kamal Kaur Bhabhi’, had over 3.83 lakh followers on her verified Instagram account and was active on multiple social media platforms.
Police suspect murder, with investigators believing that her body was dumped in the rear seat of the vehicle after her death. The vehicle was discovered after locals noticed a foul smell emanating from it. Due to the advanced stage of decomposition, officials said it was difficult to determine visible injury marks. Her body has been sent for post-mortem at Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital.
According to SP (City) Narinder Singh, Kanchan had left Ludhiana on June 9 for a promotional event in Bathinda and had not been in contact with her family since then. Originally from Lachman Colony in Ludhiana, her family has been informed, and legal action will follow based on their statements.
Reports also reveal that Kanchan had faced online threats and backlash, including one from Canada-based Khalistani extremist Arsh Dalla, who had allegedly warned her against posting videos he deemed inappropriate. Her content, known for its bold tone, had attracted controversy in the past.
Kaur’s final Instagram post, made three days prior to her death, featured her wearing a black t-shirt. As investigations continue, her death is being treated as a case of murder, raising serious questions about influencer safety and online harassment.
