In a thrilling showdown, the Indian women’s kabaddi team clinched the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship 2025, defeating Iran 32-25 in the final.
Held in Tehran, Iran, the tournament saw the Indian squad, led by captain Sonali Shingate, put on a stellar performance to secure their fifth title in six editions.
The Indian team showcased their dominance by going undefeated throughout the tournament, overcoming teams from Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia in the group stages. They continued their winning streak with a decisive victory against Nepal in the semi-finals, leading to their ultimate triumph against Iran in the final.
Iran, who were also unbeaten until the final, presented a formidable challenge to the Indian team on International Women’s Day. Despite their efforts, the Iranian squad had to settle for the runner-up position.
This victory adds to India’s impressive record in the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship, having previously won the title in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2017. The only other team to have claimed the championship in its six editions is South Korea, who emerged victorious in 2016.
The 2025 edition of the championship marks a significant achievement for the Indian women’s Kabaddi team, further cementing their status as a dominant force in the sport.
