In a dramatic maritime rescue operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully saved six crew members from the sinking cargo vessel MSV Salamath on May 14, off the coast of Mangalore, Karnataka.

The vessel, carrying cement and construction materials, began flooding in the early hours before sinking completely.

A distress call was received by a transiting ship, MT Epic Susui, which spotted the stranded crew members in a small boat drifting 52 nautical miles from Surathkal. The ICG Ship Vikram, on routine patrol, was swiftly deployed to the scene and rescued the survivors.

The crew members were provided first aid and transported to New Mangalore Port on May 15. Local authorities are conducting a probe to determine the cause of the incident. The Indian Coast Guard reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding maritime safety and security.
