A 65-member Indian Armed Forces contingent has departed for Russia to participate in the multilateral joint military exercise ZAPAD 2025, scheduled from September 10 to 16 at the Mulino Training Ground in Nizhniy.

The Indian delegation includes 57 personnel from the Indian Army, 7 from the Indian Air Force, and 1 from the Indian Navy. The Army team is led by a battalion of the KUMAON Regiment, supported by troops from various arms and services.

Exercise ZAPAD 2025 aims to enhance military cooperation, improve interoperability, and facilitate the exchange of tactics, techniques, and procedures among participating nations. The focus will be on joint company-level operations in open terrain, covering mission planning, tactical drills, and specialized combat skills.

This multinational exercise provides a strategic platform for integrating emerging technologies and strengthening joint operational capabilities in a simulated combat environment. It also reinforces India’s defence ties with Russia and promotes mutual trust and collaboration among global partners.

The Ministry of Defence emphasized that participation in ZAPAD 2025 reflects India’s commitment to global peacekeeping, readiness, and strategic cooperation.
