India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat first against West Indies in the third and final ODI at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
The day-night encounter is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM IST, with the toss taking place 30 minutes earlier. India have already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the opening two games.
Gill will be looking to lead India to a series clean sweep after producing a stunning performance in the second ODI in Guwahati. The India captain smashed an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls, helping India chase down West Indies’ massive total of 405 for 7 with eight wickets and 39 balls to spare.
The chase also featured a century from Rohit Sharma, as India completed a record-breaking pursuit. India had earlier won the opening ODI in Thiruvananthapuram.
West Indies, meanwhile, will be aiming to avoid a 3-0 series whitewash. The visitors will be without Justin Greaves, who has been ruled out due to injury.
India have also suffered a setback ahead of the series finale, with fast bowler Prasidh Krishna ruled out. Anshul Kamboj has been called up as his replacement.
The match is particularly significant for the venue, with the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium hosting its first ODI. The New Chandigarh/Mullanpur ground has previously hosted domestic and Indian Premier League matches, with its surface generally expected to provide pace and bounce.
India will look to maintain their dominant batting form, while West Indies will seek a stronger bowling display after conceding more than 400 runs in the second ODI.
