India launched its campaign in the Women’s Asia Cup Hockey 2025 with a resounding 11–0 victory over Thailand in the Pool B opener at the Hangzhou Sports Complex.
Ranked ninth in the world, the Indian team showcased its attacking prowess against the 30th-ranked Thais, leading 5–0 at halftime and continuing the onslaught in the second half.
Udita Duhan and Beauty Dung Dung each netted two goals, with Udita scoring in the 30th and 52nd minutes from penalty corners, and Dung Dung striking in the 45th and 54th minutes. Other scorers included Mumtaz Khan (7’), Sangita Kumari (10’), Navneet Kaur (16’), Lalremsiami (18’), Thoudam Suman Devi (49’), Sharmila Devi (57’), and Rutaja Dadaso Pisal (60’).
Despite missing key players like veteran goalkeeper Savita Punia and drag-flicker Deepika due to injury, India’s depth and cohesion were evident throughout the match. The win places India in a strong position to qualify for the Super 4s stage, with upcoming matches against Japan and Singapore.
The tournament winner will earn a direct berth to the 2026 Women’s Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands, adding high stakes to every match.
